This is an interesting thing I've noticed in my own life. Since I've gotten particularly fat, the way people have behaved around me has kind of enabled my gaining without it being exactly intentional. I have mixed feelings on it generally, but it's definitely something I've noticed is happening more and more often.
I've noticed that when you're fat, people make assumptions. They assume I don't want to do physical activities, they assume when we order food that I'll be ordering a lot, or that if they're full that I'll finish off whatever they don't eat. They also tend to expect certain behaviours or choices based on what they think a very large person would do, or prefer. I understand why, but it's interesting to think about because I wonder whether they're even consciously aware that they're doing it a lot of the time.
To be honest while I know people who would find these things very annoying, I actually enjoy living up to their expectations, especially as they used to know me as someone very slim and athletic. But while I get a kick out of it personally, I'm starting to better understand why so many of these subtle things can actually make it difficult for people who don't want to be fat to lose weight.
